I was surfing the Net and saw a headline about “the exercise most women should do but don’t” and clicked on it. Yes, I am a guy and all that, but women’s health sites are more likely to have dieting/weight loss info that I should read. Anyway, it turns out the exercise most women should do but don’t is, wait for it, weight lifting. Ha!

I’ve tried to convince lots of my women friends and students that weight lifting is a good idea for them, but they never believe me. When I’ve talked to women at gyms, the most common reason they started lifting weights was because their boyfriend did. Maybe I should become a serial boyfriend and spread the weight lifting gospel!

For the record, my second girlfriend took up weight lifting to cross train with her martial arts, so while I was her personal trainer, I can’t take much credit for motivating her.

Let's be honest, the large, grunting sweaty men are off-putting. And since I lift what can at best be called sissy weights (15 kg or 15+(2*2.5) kg), I always feel I'm in the wrong place and in the way.
